• Performing analogue to digital (A/D) conversion and digital to analogue (D/A) conversion at the highest sample rate appropriate to the nature and the informative content of the originals.
• Performing analogue to digital conversion at an appropriate dynamic range and sound quality to avoid re-doing the transfer and re-handling of the originals in the future - digitise once only.
• Creating meaningful metadata for sound files and associated documents including cataloguing issues (if appropriate)
  
  
  • Monitoring and recopying data if necessary
    
    
    • Outlining a migration strategy for transferring data across generations of archive and access technology (plan for obsolescence of current hard- and software technology)
    • Anticipating and planning for future usage and technological developments
