Antonio Baldassarre has been conducting fieldwork in Morocco since 1977. He has published an anthology of Moroccan music on 10 CDs, and various articles on the Moroccan Gnawas featured in edited texts and specialized journals.
In the last few years he has developed an interest in the condition of women in traditional Moroccan culture, producing the CDs Poèmes d'Amour des Femmes du Sud Marocain, Voices of Marrakech, and Chants Sacrés des Femmes de Fès on this topic.
